Random Musings - Day #181

Phone Codes
Ever get weird and wonderful calls/texts from numbers you have not heard of. Some may be part of scams, so you could google that first. Anyways if you want to know about phone codes for Britain, there is the UK Telephone Code Locator. For international codes, there is kropla and countrycalling codes

Computer News
A few news items grabbed my attention including a Swiss hip-hop site that was apparently unwittingly serving kiddie porn and the phone phreaker who was finally jailed for 11 years (I wonder if his telephone privileges will be wavered!) and his background is rather exotic

Ping time
Here some references on the wonderful command that is ping from inetdaemon, computerhope and Microsoft.

Random Musings - Day #180

Day 180 which of course the maximum score in darts and even a bus route. 180 is also 3 minutes which enough time to boil an egg.

Here's a little script useful for auditing Sun Solaris

Random Musings - Day #179

Finding a blood-sucking fish in the rivers should be bad news but apparently it's good news because it demonstrates that the water quality is good.

Skanking is another form that is making the rounds. You can even learn how to do the migraine skank, jungle skank and even the swine flu skank.

La Roux debuted at #1 on the UK charts with "Bulletproof" but that's been overshadowing by Michael Jackson's death and as a consequence had no-less than 6 entries in the top 40 singles chart with "Man in the mirror" being the pick at #11.

Random Musings - Day #178

It's funny the previous day I was in Hastings, playing some crap adventure golf, the next day I see a guy with a t-shirt saying "I love Hastings Pier".

I've noticed the last couple days, two separate incidents where I have seen confrontations between two guys, when one man has been staring at another and the other man aggressively responds, "What you staring at?" On both occasion, the man doing the staring was the Caucasian and the guy responding was the black. Weird, eh?

Random Musings - Day #177

Karaoke
I am actually finding it quite hard to find a decent location to go to a karaoke place. The decent ones are way up in London and are open during the week. Whilst other ones appear to be in seedy parts of town. A couple of places I've been to Belushi's in London Bridge and Puzzle Bar in Pimlico.
I've been looking for guides and pubsingers.com appears to be good guide. There are others like Karaokeinfo but not they are not as good and may not be up to date.
There's a useful London listing from squaremeal.

Avenue Q
Avenue Q didn't disappoint. The songs were so un-PC, it was great. Particularly in the first half of the show. I thought the girl who played Kate Monster/Lucy Slut was great and it turns it was the understudy, Rachel Jerram. Christmas Eve was funny too. Also apparently Maria Lawson was there. Mind you, I didn't recognise her and I am not so sure if it is the same one that did very well on x-factor a couple of years ago, especially there is no reference to it on wikipedia. The current cast ensemble is here.
Ah it's not the same Maria Lawson...

Random Musings - Day #176

Michael Jackson died after a sudden heart attack. That sad. There has been a question about his health ever since it was announced he would play 50 shows at the o2. Now he perform none. That's no stop sales of MJ tickets. Apparently someone has bid 10 million pounds for it.

Unfortunately Farrah Fawcett died as well. She of the original Charlie's Angels fame and generally nice curly hair had been battling anal cancer. That's arguably more sadder especially as her death will likely be overshadowed by Michael Jackson's.

There are several places that provide free wireless and here's the cheap mobile broadband that illustrates this.

Random Musings - Day #175

With the second transformers movie out, Megan Fox is once again centre stage. Personally I don't think she is all that. She is pretty but she is hyped to the tilt. There was a big deal she said she was bisexual.

Novak Djokovic recently had to save 5 match points before winning a tennis match. But this begs the question what is the most match points saved in a match.

Apparently there's a device that is used to prevent breasts from sagging over time. It's called the kush and ladies place it between the boobs at night and this is meant to work. Insert your own double entendre/sexual joke here.

Tuesday 23 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #174

Well noticing some really bad marks on my legs and need some soothing insect bite cream. But apparently there is a clicker device that is supposed to give you bite relief from bite itches. Apparently it is in boots.

Monday 22 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #173

Well I've arrived and saw the movie "he's just not into you" which is no way as good as the book. By the way, I saw "Taken", "The International", "The Wrestler" and the best of those seen, "Gran Torino". Favourite seen was the barbershop insult scenes.

Apparently the Stig was finally revealed as Michael Schumacher.

David Guetta moves from #7 to #1 with Kelly Rowland on "When loves takes over".
Pixie Lott and Black eyed peas slip one place each to accommodate Guetta's move.

Things to remember when doing a security audit

Random Musings - Day #172

Well fun and games getting home. An early drive to Maracus Bay for a look around on the beach. Could have sworn I saw Ian Wright again! I got badly nibbled by the mossies there.
The car broke down just as it got over to see my grandma and generally after that it was a mad rush to get to the airport.
Lucky again, as I spot Teddy Sheringham in the Club World seats on the inbound flight. Unusually, Teddy wasn't with a lady friend. Mind you, he did go and play golf.

Random Musings - Day #171

RIAA win nearly $2 million
Another win for the bad guys, as RIAA get the verdict over a mum from Minnesota.

An old lightweight DoS exposed
Now the old silently terminating a request and forcing the web server to wait for the duration of the web server's timeout period (e.g. apache is 300 seconds) rares it
ugly head as reported in article by rsnake. Interesting, the company that I know of had come up with proof of concept for this and for whatever internal reason waited too long to get a disclosure out back in 2006.

Gladys Knight
I saw an old video of Gladys Knight looking good with her pips and begged question what was her most famous hit. I could only come up with "Licence to kill" of the top of my head and that wasn't with her beloved pips! I was sure she recorded an original of a song that was covered famously later. Then I figured out it was "I heard it through the grapevine" covered by Marvin Gaye. Other songs they made the UK top 20 with were "Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me" (1967) and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" (1972), whilst "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" (1973) was arguably their biggest US hit.

Random Musings - Day #170

In Trinidad and Tobago, it is Labour Day, which to any other North American is absolutely weird as it's on a Friday. Granted that unlike their American and Canadian friends, Labour Day is fixed on a date (June 19).
There was some parade down south of San Fernando that blocked the local traffic. My cousin that drove us around got pulled as he overtook him just before
coming off the junction. The policeman didn't like saying that we cut him up. But he was riding his motorbike slowly. There were words exchanged and he rode off. If it were the UK, the policeman would probably try to charge him for dissent.
Also passed a hotel with cool name, the 'Do Drop Inn'.

SWAT stands for Special Weapons And Tactics.
When someone was singing the line from Valerie, "Why don't you come over...", I sang back, "Why don't you come over to my place. Hey you we're having a wimpy." Strange how I remember an old advert.

Thursday 18 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #169

Had to go away to Trinidad for family reasons. But on the way there, I encountered Arsenal legend and TV presenter Ian Wright and DJ Spoony (who I figured out who he was as they passed customs) on the flight to Tobago. I figured out that they were there for the Dwight Yorke invitational golf tournament, particularly as they were both wearing golf caps
and carrying golf clubs.

Random Musings - Day #168

Last blog post for a little while as I am on leave and likely be away from computer. Station has been open all week (3-0). However the ticket machine has up the creek until today. Off away for a few days... so a little mini break.

I got a new rolex for my birthday from the lesbian girls next door! I think they misunderstood when I said I wanna watch.

Tuesday 16 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #167

PM and the rose-tinted windows...
Having breakfast just outside a client, I see a policeman on motorcycle stopping traffic. Following that there was fleet of cars with police escort. Looking inside one of the car's windows. I could see behind slightly tinted windows, none other Gordon Brown or at least someone who looked remarkably like him.

Blue? Honestly?
I was told wearing blue gives the impression that you are truthful and honest. That can be backed up with the phrase (or Madonna album) 'True Blue' So unfortunately, my friend who likes to talk a lot is telling the truth!

Monday 15 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #166

Good old Duckworth-Lewis Method came into play as West Indies beat England to knock them out of the World 20-20 Cup.
Their are bids from 7 different sports to get into the Olympics of 2016.

Sunday 14 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #165

Essex girl, Pixie Lott is the new #1 with "Mama do". Black-eyed peas down to #2 and agnes is at #3 with "Reldase me"

Tennis
Interesting remarks made before the final that saw Andy Murray beat James Blake. Blake is apparently half British.

So, although the nation will unite to celebrate a historic Andy Murray victory today, should he lose, you can still flutter those Union Jacks with pride. As Blake himself says: "The crowd will be on his side being full British, but I'm half English too - hopefully I will have a few supporters."

Random Musings - Day #162

Station closed for the 3rd day this week. Not been open at all this week in my eyes.

Random Musings - Day #161

Poorly but hopefully well rested now. I've been on 131 flights before. The station has been closed the first two days of this week but not there today, so dunno

Tuesday 9 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #160

Soap bubbling up
I've caught looking at SOAP clients and it's doing my head in. Need to try to set up a SOAP client up in short order. Fine.
But it gets very awkward if you are using client side certificates. The browser only works with it installed, which
heavily complicates things. There is a good javascript SOAP client package from guru4. That's not to say it can be done freehand as shown in this devarticle. Another possible client to look at is Soap-sec. Surprisingly, Firefox has no add-ons for this.

Javascript
Cross-domain scripting is there for security's sake but is very hard but not impossible to by-pass if needed. More on Javascript Objects

Random Musings - Day #159

Security News Portal seems to be clever enough to detect whether there is a problem with your ISP with spamming.
Whatismyipaddress has a feature where you can find out if your IP address is blacklisted. The Chinese are blocking da bing. Meanwhile the pound rose to a 7 month high against the weaker dollar recently.
Tomcat patches and their fixes are available at the apache site. Here's a way to Install SSL certificate in Firefox and here's how to use showmount. And here's how to remove emulsion paint from your clothes.

Station Update
Station update. 4 times it was open last week. And as per usual it was closed at the start of the week.

UK Singles Chart
Kasabian's Fire is at #3 and slight surprise as Dizzie Rascal slips to #2 as Black eyed peas bounce back to #1.

Random Musings - Day #158

Fed French Express
So The Fed wins the French open and completes the Grand Slam.

Turkish Delight
So it is 6 out of 7 for the driver named after a Canadian DJ as he wins in Istanbul. The driver named after the knighted composer was second and his team-mate driver named after yet another drink. Meanwhile the current world champion named after another dj is having a stinger of season.

Random Musings - Day #157

Painting, pretty much and that's it. Mate showed me a game on his iphone about urinal etiquette. It's really common sense. I wonder if it's based on the drinknation.com game.

Friday 5 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #156

Been watching a show about 10 things you need to know aobut losing weight. Interesting I heard about having soup keeps you feeling full for longer. I didn't know having more protein has the same effect as it induces PYY.

Thursday 4 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #155

Bare-chested
Just a thought but why is it that every other movie starring Daniel Craig and Matthew McConaughey, there is at least one scene they are topless. It *must* be in their contract, surely! And for the record IMHO, Daniel Craig has better upper body than Matthew.

Your mum
For a laugh, set your status that you are commenting every wall post with 'your mum' and start doing that accordingly. Guaranteed to get a response or two. Your mum jokes are the best!

Random Musings - Day #154

I'm having one of those weeks, where I just don't feel like blogging or at least when I get the chance to, my brain shuts down or my body falls asleep. I need some imagination!

Tuesday 2 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #153

You got to be careful what view/download of the web. Whilst looking at tools I picked up a mal-generic-a trojan which decided to become a part of spambot network. Not pretty.
Tired.
Station has been 2 days in a row this week, wow.

Monday 1 June 2009

Random Musings - Day #152

West End Live is a showcase of all the theatre shows in the West End district of London. The best part is that it's free.
Dizzie Rascal and Van Heldon are still at #1 in the UK with the Black Eyed Peas still at #2. Agnes and Release me is at #3.
