Random Musings - Day #228

If you get stuck on an isolated train station (e.g. St Johns), you are pretty reliant on the ticket machine. Dutch train ticket machines are awful. The ones on the station in Nunspeet were not accepting cards nor notes, which meant I had find 20 euros in change (the smallest value coin is 2 euros). Apparently, if you tried to buy on the train, you would be charged 30 euros penalty on top of the fare. Very annoying. Furthermore, the local restaurant refused to give change when asked. So had to get a ticket to the stopover and then buy another ticket from there. Funny, how they are hardly no tunnels in the Netherlands. It's probably because the country is newish, particularly with land being reclaimed, etc. But it's mainly because it is flat.

Also if you want to upset the Dutch, tell them that you think Holland and Netherlands are the same. Apparently not so. Technically, Holland is part of the Netherlands.

Sport
Tiger Woods failed to win after leading going into the final round. YE Yang won the USPGA becoming the first Asian winner of a golfing major. Usain Bolt broke the 100m record down to 9.58s when winning the World Championships.

Random Musings - Day #214

An amazing story as it turns out as Catriona Matthew won the women's British Open. What made it amazing was she only gave birth to a second girl 11 weeks old at ripe age of 39 and was also caught in a fire in a hotel the previous week.
I was a bit curious about her playing partner on the final round, Christina Kim who likes to wear berets backwards. With her pigtails, she look a bit like cammy (or to be more exact a cross between cammy and chun li). She's a got a twitter page.

The UK singles chart is turning into a merry-go-round as the top 3 is the same as last week but in a different order and certainly not in the order expected. Having got stuck at #3 last week, Black eyed peas climb to the top displacing JLS at #2 whilst Mr Hudson and Kanye West fail to improve their debut entry at #2 last week as they slip to #3.

It's funny whilst waiting for a bus, I started to retrance those dance steps that I saw on youtube. Well unbeknown to me, a couple of kids were looking at me practising and wanted to know what/how I was doing that. Made me think if I were younger or more to the point why didn't do dancing sooner?

Random Musings - Day #213

Well that's it for the John the baptist of British ladies tennis as Anne Keothavong messes up her knee and misses the rest of the year. She's done really well to be the first women to make top 50 for a long time and with the future looking promising (i.e. Laura Robson and Heather Watson), there's possibly better to come. I fear Keothavong's ranking though. She'll probably fall outside the top 100 as a result. Look what happened to Maria Sharapova. She fell from being #1 at the French Open 2008 to being out of the top 100 after a long term shoulder injury in March 2009.

I didn't know ladies golf was... cool? Apparently Natalie Gublis, a winner on the LPGA tour has been on FHM. I've only really heard of Michelle Wie who I thought would be dominating the sport by now.

I've been looking at tents as I have to go a conference in a field. go-camping is a good start. But having a head-scratch about tents. I've seen reviews and those tents that claim to be 2-man tents should be for 1. Likewise, 3-man tents should be for 2 and 4-man tents should be for 3, etc. The lightest tents are the quickdraw ones but are notoriously hard to put away. This video shows it can be easily be put away given a good technique.

Random Musings - Day #200

I was quite enthralled by the Open tournament in which Tom Watson rolled back the years to be 10 inches from winning in 9th major golf title. He's nearly 60, so there is hope for us all. In the end, Stewart Cink outlasted him to win.

Next time someone tells you that they are London boy. Ask them what they were dancing in 1989? If they don't know they aren't really a London boy

JLS, runners up on the last x-factor debut at #1 with the run of the mill r&b track, "Beat again". Cascada drops to #2 and Black eye peas are back at #3 with "I gotta a feeling"

Random Musings - Day #172

Well fun and games getting home. An early drive to Maracus Bay for a look around on the beach. Could have sworn I saw Ian Wright again! I got badly nibbled by the mossies there.
The car broke down just as it got over to see my grandma and generally after that it was a mad rush to get to the airport.
Lucky again, as I spot Teddy Sheringham in the Club World seats on the inbound flight. Unusually, Teddy wasn't with a lady friend. Mind you, he did go and play golf.

Random Musings - Day #169

Had to go away to Trinidad for family reasons. But on the way there, I encountered Arsenal legend and TV presenter Ian Wright and DJ Spoony (who I figured out who he was as they passed customs) on the flight to Tobago. I figured out that they were there for the Dwight Yorke invitational golf tournament, particularly as they were both wearing golf caps
and carrying golf clubs.

Random Musings - Day #116

Crazy Golf Championships
This started as a joke when I looked up Hastings and what to do there. One of its features is the World Crazy Golf Championship. I think you do have to be a member of the BMGA (British Mini Golf Association). All I am thinking is I'd love to see Tiger Woods take part one time!

Crazy Dream
I had a dream where I fell off the platform at my train station was laid out on the tracks for a moment. Fortunately, the usual crap train service that there was, no train came to run me over. However, as I got up I got told off by two workmen for being on the track. But one of them did help me back on to the platform.

London Marathon
Ethopian Samuel Wanjiru won the Men's event and German Irina Mikitenko won the Women's event. But it's really all about fun runners and even the celebs. I showed up at the 3-mile point and saw the runners go by. The only famous people, I saw was Peter Andre and hot-looking Katie Price.

Random Musings - Day #106

Technoviking, I know someone that dances like that. Here's video evidence.
Someone was showing me a video of side crow in yoga. It kind of reminds me of a baby freeze in breakdancing circles.

There a hole in South Africa that is a mountain above the green. You can win a million dollars if you get a hole in one. Apparently you would need to drive the ball 500 yards to get it on the green.

Shame that the formidable Sir Clement Freud died yesterday
Yet to check out Susan Boyle who was on Britain's got talent. Even Demi Moore was falling over herself over it
