Random Musings - Day #32

CCCP
I remember when I was a kid and I got asked, "What is the meaning of CCCP?" There was some joke by that question. Presumably it was that no-one knew what CCCP stood for. I'm always considered it, as Russian for USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). Check out this funny article about the CCCP Fair. People do wear CCCP shirts and jerseys and it's suggested that people do not understand what they are wearing.
BTW CCCP is also a combined community codec pack.

Tapping up
I find it funny that Harry Redknapp, Spurs manager has been accused of tapping up Robbie Keane for making this remark...
Robbie is a terrific player and a good lad but he belongs to Liverpool so it's not a possibility.

To me that looks so innocuous to me that I am not surprised that Harry has come back fighting. Surely there's more to this than meets the eye!
Check out the funny sequence with Robbie Keane and the January transfer window on special1tv. At least Rafa will be happy as his 12-man Liverpool beat 10-man Chelsea, 2-0.

The Gillette Curse
I was watching an advert for Gillette, which features Thierry Henry, Tiger Woods and Roger Federer. But the curse is definitely on. Roger Federer lost again to Rafael Nadal, this time in the Australian Open. Tiger Woods has not been seen since injuring his left knee when winning the 2008 US PGA Open (even though he still #1 in the world rankings). Whilst Thierry Henry? Thierry who?
Arguably, the new brigade should be Nadal, world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Garcia.

Bootable Pendrives
Here's the way to install linux and backtrack onto a pen drive. Personally, you would not want a writable OS on a pendrive because constant read/writing (particularly in swap files) is not good for a technology that uses flash media.

Dairy Milk
Have to give praise to whoever is in charge of advertising for Cadbury's Dairy Milk, with the 80s throwback. First, there's the Gorilla impersonating Phil Collins. Now, a very cute video of two kids raising their eyebrows all over the place on the back of a funky 80s beat.

UK Chart
A bit of surprise as Lily Allen scores her second number 1 hit (after "Smile" in July 2006). She displaces Lady Gaga (#2) and Kid Cudi slips a slot to #3.

Trevor McDoughnut
I leave you with Trevor McDoughNut (Lenny Henry) eventually singing the blues.

Random Musings - Day #25

Chinese New Year is nearly upon us. That will be tomorrow the new year will see in the year of the ox. Some countries observe the day as a holiday. There is a calendar guide available which determines when subsequent new years take place. Not it is rarely on the same date every year. This used to be good UK guide. In London, most of the events will take place on the following weekend, as mentioned by the London Chinatown Chinese Association.

Independence Days. Every country has got one. Whether they have holidays for them is another thing. Here's is list from about.com.

Global/National Days. Well there are some weird and wonderful holidays in the calendar particularly from America including brownielocks and holidays.net. Even the UK have weird holidays

Back in 1998, People magazine had an online poll of the "50 most beautiful people". Except the online community had other ideas. Someone kept emails and news of the goings-on. There was an online campaign to Hank the angry dwarf off the Howard Stern show to #1 on the list. This started when someone entered Hank as a write-in candidate and really took off when websites such as this one. The end result was Hank came out on top. Not only that top 10 had a weird feel about as both Ric Flair (#2) and John Linnell from They might be giants (#9) appear after a big push from their respective online fanbase. Here's MTV review of it.

Here is a cute video of the Monkey playing the guitar! And here's the original flat eric in action. Here's one of the Levis Ad. Even Justin Timberlake wants Flat Eric back in this mash-up. Talking of Justin Timberlake, finally the full skit is back!

Lady Gaga is #1 for a third week in the UK Charts holding off Kid Cudi and the Crooners for a second week, whilst Tinchy Stryder with "Take me back" is at #3.

Legendary boxing and greyhound racing commentator Reg Gutteridge died yesterday.

Tiswas. A then-unknown Chinese star appeared on Tiswas.
Best moment on Tiswas was Sir Trevor McDonald surprised Lenny Henry as he was impersonating him as Trevor McDoughnut.
